The Opportunity
We are seeking a solicitor to join our in-house legal team to assist the Head of Legal with day-to-day legal matters. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a board range of legal matters supporting KAEFER's operations in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The successful candidate must be experienced in dealing with a range of industry form contracts documents (such as NEC), but as an in-house solicitor you will be required to advise more broadly on other legal topics as and when required by the business. This opportunity will suit someone who is self-motivated, capable of working independently and who can take a proactive and business focused approach to providing legal advice.
You will report to the Head of Legal.
Main Duties
The main duties and responsibilities of this role include the following:
Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and suppliers and liaise with colleagues and clients/client legal representatives
Provide advice to the business in a timely manner on contractual documents in accordance with KAEFER's commercial and governance rules
Assist with data protection compliance including preparation of data protection impact assessments and dealing with personal data breaches and data subject requests
Provide ad hoc miscellaneous legal advice on other matters such as corporate governance, insurance, data protection, disputes and dispute avoidance, claims management and property matters
Draft standard form template documents
Provide company law advice and assist with company secretarial compliance matters including Companies House filings, holding board meetings and preparing board/shareholder resolutions
Assist with the review, implementation and improvement of processes and procedures across the wider business
Manage external relationships with external counsel and surveyors or other professionals
Project manage matters involving external advisers and extract their advice to provide recommendations to the business
Liaise with insurance brokers and loss adjusters in relation to insurance claims and queries
Build relationships with teams and colleagues across the business
Deliver training on legal topics
Provide supervision, coaching and support to develop junior team members
Develop technical knowledge and keep updated with developments in law
Ensure compliance with SRA requirements at all times
Requirements
Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate
Must have considerable experience of working in a commercial law firm or in an in-house legal role
Solid experience of construction, contract and commercial law and advising on NEC Contracts, knowledge of other construction industry contracts, IChemE and LOGIC contracts is highly desirable
Knowledge of commercial litigation and adjudication processes
Knowledge of data protection legislation
Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills with ability to prioritise own workload
Excellent project management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with change and change priorities to suit the needs of the business require
Ability to work quickly to meet the timescales of the business
Ability to adapt and learn new areas of law
Ability to supervise, coach and develop junior members of the team
