We are seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team at an independent family owned restaurant where you are more than just an employee but part of a friendly family from the owners to the kitchen porters. We have an onsite butcher who producing the cuts we use from our owners own longhorn beef farm. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation and presentation, and maintaining exceptional standards of food safety. This position requires a strong background in hospitality and culinary arts, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, knowledge of cooking all cuts of steak from single cuts to sharing cuts. Also have a great emphasis on teamwork and leadership, with the ability to coach and mentor the junior chefs and new apprentices to be the next generation of chefs.
Duties
Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and staff management.
Supervise food preparation and cooking processes to ensure quality and consistency.
Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene throughout the kitchen.
Collaborate with the culinary team to develop new menu items and improve existing recipes.
Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Assist in inventory management, including ordering supplies and minimising waste.
Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and cleaned.
Help manage food production schedules to meet service demands efficiently.
Skills
Strong background in hospitality with excellent customer service skills.
Proven experience in supervising kitchen staff and managing a team effectively.
Proficient in food preparation techniques and culinary skills.
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices within a restaurant environment.
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen setting.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail.
Strong communication skills to facilitate teamwork within the kitchen.
Passion for culinary arts and a desire to continually learn and improve.
