South Indian Chef
. This is a fantastic opportunity for a culinary professional with at least
3 years of experience
in preparing authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of traditional South Indian flavors and techniques, with the ability to thrive in a multicultural, high-standard kitchen environment.
Fluency in English is essential -- candidates must be capable of passing the UKVI IELTS exam or must have completed their education in an English-medium institution.
This is an excellent opportunity to showcase regional culinary expertise in one of the world's most dynamic food scenes.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Cooking
Prepare an extensive range of traditional South Indian vegetarian dishes, including dosa, idly, vada, pongal, upma, avial, sambar, rasam, kootu, poriyal, and more.
Maintain consistency in taste, texture, and presentation according to the restaurant's fine-dining standards.
Make spice blends, batters, chutneys, and accompaniments from scratch using authentic methods.
Kitchen Operations & Hygiene
Supervise junior cooks and kitchen assistants during preparation and service.
Maintain the highest hygiene and cleanliness standards as per UK Health & Safety and Food Hygiene regulations.
Monitor and manage kitchen inventory, ensuring timely procurement and minimal wastage.
Menu Development
Work closely with the head chef and management to develop seasonal, festive, and special-event menus (e.g., Onam Sadhya, Pongal, Navaratri specials).
Contribute creative ideas while preserving the authenticity of traditional South Indian cuisine.
Team Collaboration & Compliance
Train and mentor junior kitchen staff on preparation techniques and kitchen protocols.
Maintain open communication with the service team regarding dish prep times and allergen-related information.
Comply with all UK food safety and hygiene standards.
Candidate Requirements:
Minimum
3 years of professional experience
cooking South Indian vegetarian cuisine in a commercial kitchen.
Familiarity with a broad range of breakfast, tiffin, and main course items.
Must be proficient in English -- either through formal education or by meeting UKVI IELTS requirements.
Strong understanding of traditional ingredients, preparation techniques, and presentation styles.
Experience working in structured, high-quality kitchen environments is preferred.
