Job Description

We are looking for two candidates to deliver high quality learning support to children and young people with an Education and Health Care Plan.

One role is at Bury St Edmunds. One role is at Ipswich. Please state in your application which area you are interested in.

This role predominantly supports our EHCP Post 16 Education programme, focusing on personal development, learning, social-emotional health, and community integration through nature-based activities.

You will empower, encourage and enable individuals to access their education or personal development pathways, helping them move closer to their goals and independence.

You will work with young people who experience barriers to learning which may include autism, ADHD, SEN and social, emotional and mental health challenges. Your role is to help them access their education within a therapeutic and supportive setting, using activities in nature as a conduit to bring about success and growth.

What you'll do:

Responsibilities:



To provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs; in line with their support plans, including EHCPs. Facilitate engagement in nature-based activities, supporting communication and participation throughout the day, this may include use and design of visual aids, and Makaton to access activities. Work closely with tutors and programme tutors and facilitators to ensure consistent support aligned with individual goals and support plans.
Support tutors to monitor progress throughout the day by acting as a keyworker for the individual you are working with.

Promote community integration by encouraging social interaction, independence, and confidence-building. Support individuals with behaviour management, helping individuals regulate their emotions, build resilience and build personal development strategies. Communicate effectively with participants, families, and professionals, adapting to individual communication styles. Contribute to risk assessments, support plans, and progress reports by sharing observations and updates with the team. Offer guidance and encouragement to those who need additional support to engage in activities or navigate challenges.

People Skills:

Organisational Skills:



o Able to manage multiple tasks and track participant progress

o Confident using IT systems to support record-keeping and communication

o Good literacy and numeracy skills

Resilience:



Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and maintain a sunny disposition Able to handle challenging situations with professionalism and empathy

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience:



Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, or young people with SEMH or SEN. Visual aids and Makaton communication knowledge. Familiarity with EHCPs, restorative practice, or emotion coaching Background in youth work, education, or social care Level 2/GCSE English and maths
