We are looking for two motivated and detail-focused Inspections Officers to join our Specialist Revenues team, with one post based in Eastbourne and one in Lewes. These roles play a vital part in ensuring accurate Council Tax records and protecting local revenue.
Your duties will include but not be limited to:
To visit new and altered dwellings for domestic and commercial use and carry out ad-hoc visits as required by the Billing Team.
Verify occupancy status including sole/primary residence checks
Confirm eligibility for discounts, exemptions and premiums
Identify and report unregistered or newly created properties
To record the results of visits and interviews carried out keeping accurate records and update relevant computer systems and data bases for all new and upcoming property developments
Investigate discrepancies between system records & actual property use
Liaise with Landlords, letting agents, residents and external partners as needed
Liaise with internal departments such as Planning & building control
Prepare and issue completion notices to comply with Local Government Finance Act.
Support efforts to reduce fraud, error and avoidable loss of Council Tax revenue
Investigate & negotiate high value debts across Council Tax & Business Rates
Work independently across your area
You will need a strong understanding of relevant legislation around Council Tax and Business Rates. The ability to work independently across a defined area and strong investigative and communication skills. A full driving licence and access to a car is required due to the inspection aspect of the role.
