The Welsh Blood Service has an opportunity for a HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work within the Automated Testing Laboratory.
Applicants for this post must have completed or be working towards a specialist qualification (either IBMS Specialist Diploma in Transfusion Science & GMP or BBTS Specialist Certificate to practice).
The post holder will work in a team and be responsible for testing of Blood Components, suitable for transfusion.
Main duties of the job
The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) has a post for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (BMS) based in the Automated Testing department at the Talbot Green base. The post offers the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to work at the Welsh Blood Service and we welcome candidates with a keen interest in laboratory-based employment.
The post holder will perform a variety of routine and specialist technical tasks which will include the testing of blood components suitable for transfusion. The successful applicants will work at a level to ensure that all processes meet the requirements of the UK Guidelines for Blood Transfusion and the EU Directive as inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Completion of the qualification/learning is a requirement of the contract of employment for Annex 21 candidates.
During the training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows:
The candidate must be within a year of attaining their qualification and will be paid at 75% of the top of the Band 6 pay scale.
Upon successful attainment of the identified qualification/experience /competencies, even if sooner than the 12 month allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to Band 6 as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within the as indicated.
NOTE : There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations.
