Calling all HVAC Engineers, Energy Managers and Contract Managers. Come join the University in shaping a sustainable future and shape our innovation pathway.

If you have a passion for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and Building Management Systems (BMS), this is your chance to make a real difference and join a group of very capable Facilities Management professionals. With a growing district heat network on our main campus, there are vast areas to explore to ensure we are running as efficiently as possible.

The University is looking to recruit a talented, motivated and experienced individual in the role of

specialist building services (SBS) engineer

to work with our diverse mix of buildings and to oversee our HVAC and BMS strategies whilst supporting our outsourced maintenance activities

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering our 2030 carbon ambitions (see our commitments here) and reducing our energy consumption. As well as being a pivotal part of the day-to-day operations of how, when and why our spaces are conditioned. So, knowledge of energy management practices and strategies will be hugely beneficial.

This role will help shape future development and innovation of our Estate through introducing new technologies and by improving performance of our existing HVAC installations. Therefore there will be opportunity to influence and assist with the development of the asset lifecycle programme, ensuring investment is not only value for money but focussed in the right strategic areas.

No day will be the same in this role, as the varying nature of our installations and systems will be an exciting challenge. This role will give the successful applicant the chance to work in a dynamic University setting, where their expertise directly supports students, staff, and the wider community.

About you

The University is seeking applicants with a bias towards BMS and controls we therefore seek experience in both hardware or software elements.

As mentioned, we believe this post will form a key role in reducing the University carbon footprint and improve our energy efficiency, and you should have experience and specialist knowledge in this area.

Ideally you will have experience of monitoring systems; fault finding and progressing resolutions (we use external contractors, so experience with managing contractors could be beneficial). On some occasions it may be necessary to prepare specialist briefs or designs for external contractors or internal stakeholders. Both verbal and written communication skills will be important, with the ability to both interpret and explain complex, technical, financial and performance information.

Due to the nature of Estates activities you'll be required to occasionally attend construction sites, plant areas, or other campuses. So, please ensure you will be able to manage these conflicting demands and have experience in managing time efficiently and effectively.

Our team of specialist engineers are responsible for other infrastructure too, and from time to time they may require occasional support within various areas including: Security Systems (Access Control; CCTV; Intruder); Fire Alarm Systems, IT/Telephony Infrastructure.

Where is this role based?

This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed.

However, there could be activities as part of this role at any of our Campuses.
