Specialist Chemotherapy Production Pharmacist

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a specialist pharmacist in the Pharmacy Chemotherapy Preparation and Dispensing Unit at Guy's NHS Foundation Trust.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Pharmacist with a keen interest in aseptic services and quality management to join and lead our Chemotherapy Preparation and Dispensing team. We are located within the Guy's Cancer Centre, Chemotherapy Day Unit and work closely with nursing, medical and other operational management teams to provide a patient focused service. You will also work closely with our large multidisciplinary clinical trials team providing innovative treatments.
We are looking for candidates who ideally have some experience of aseptic services and or pharmaceutical quality assurance and have a desire to progress in these areas.
Main duties of the job
Key activities of the post holder will include:

  • To provide technical support for pharmacists and nurses involved in the care of cancer patients.
  • To contribute to the development of aseptic services in line with local and national objectives.
  • To ensure national and local agendas are delivered
  • To demonstrate a critical approach towards pharmacy practice in aseptic services preparation units (section 10).
  • To liaise with other aseptic services and clinical pharmacists to ensure safe, effective and efficient service delivery to our patients.
  • To undertake operational duties over the weekend and bank holidays as part of the broader pharmacy team.
About us
The technical services department at Guy's and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) is a large department comprising of aseptic, sterile and non-sterile manufacturing with full support from on-site Quality Control and Quality Assurance teams. The aseptic units undertake a wide range of manufacturing and dispensed activities and each unit has a full complement of Pharmacists, Technicians and Assistants. This post will be based in the Chemotherapy Unit in the Cancer Centre at Guy's, which opened in October 2016.
The extensive multidisciplinary team (MDT) including consultants, registrars, clinical nurse specialists, specialist clinical and technical pharmacists, clinical research teams and administrative staff work together in a dynamic environment to deliver seamless care to our extensive patient cohort.

Experience

  • Previous assessable experience of working as a pharmacist with experience as an authorised pharmacist within an aseptic unit.
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge of GMP, QA and all current relevant regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all grades of staff.
  • Previous assessable experience in staff training and assessment.
