Job Description

To deliver a high quality specialist clinical pharmacy service. To provide specialist clinical support to Advanced Clinical Pharmacist(s) in a specific clinical specialty area. To utilise independent prescribing to support discharge. To undertake routine clinical pharmacy duties in designated areas of work, both clinical and operational and ensure compliance with medicines legislation. To support pharmacy service areas in the department on a rotational basis. This may include dispensaries, technical services and medicines information. Departmental duties will require the individual where appropriate to take a clinical supervisory role. Day to day management of the whole staff group will rest with the Specialist pharmacy technician/manager of that area. To undertake the professional duties of a pharmacist within the Trust's service. To ensure, under the guidance of the relevant pharmacy manager, appropriate supervision of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Support Workers and Trainee pharmacists and to provide mentoring of junior pharmacists in order to maintain strict compliance with checking and working procedures.
Main duties of the job
Contributing to the development and maintenance of policies and guidelines. Liaising with all grades of medical and nursing staff over relevant aspects of the pharmacy service. Helping to implement necessary service changes as a consequence of these consultations. Identifying, reporting on and responding to risk management issues or clinical incidents, referring to peers as necessary. Generating and reviewing reports in order to assist Advanced Clinical Pharmacists to inform the Trust about medication usage and expenditure and/or safety issues related to medicines. Participating in audits to demonstrate the effectiveness or identify development needs of all systems relating to the use of medicines. Deliver, in collaboration with staff in the Medicines Information department, support for Formulary & Drug Usage Audit initiatives.
