Swansea University Health Board is seeking to appoint to a brand new 10 session Medical Oncologist post in Melanoma, Breast Cancer and AOS who has a commitment to high quality patient care, high level research, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets and excellence in education/training. The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of SACT for the above tumour sites as well as expanding a trials portfolio in these cancers for the patients of the South West Wales Cancer Centre. The postholder will be joining a friendly and forward-thinking consultant team of clinical and medical oncologists who are committed to delivering highest standards of cancer care, alongside a large team of other clinical and non-clinical professionals This post is for a specialist grade medical oncologist with a sub specialist interest in melanoma, breast cancer and AOS. This is a 10-session post and working hours are flexible to accommodate candidates who may have caring duties. The candidate is encouraged to sit any relevant postgraduate examinations and to undertake CESR with support from the department. Dedicated time and support for CESR preparation is incorporated into the job plan.



Melanoma:

The postholder will be an integral member of the melanoma team, working with 1 other oncologist. The team is supported by a specialist nurse and pharmacist.



The candidate will be seeing the region of 80 new pts and 400 follow up patients per year



Breast:

The postholder will be an integral member of the Breast Cancer team, currently including three Medical Oncologists, 2 Clinical Oncologists, a Specialist Nurse for both metastatic and adjuvant breast cancer and a dedicated pharmacist. The team is also supported by research nurses.



Acute Oncology The Acute Oncology Service in Swansea was launched in 2015. The team has developed to consist of three full time AOS nurses, a GP with extended interest in oncology, and 4 consultants with sessions to support the nursing team and to conduct medical reviews. The service covers both Singleton and Morriston Hospital.



Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around 1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science.



We also have community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals. The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of Southwest Wales. Swansea is Wales' second largest city and sits on the five-mile sweep of Swansea Bay. An ideal base for exploring South-West Wales, there is also much on offer for visitors in Swansea itself. Swansea has a range of shops, cosy cafes, great restaurants, art galleries as well as being able to offer good outdoor lifestyle with its beautiful coastline and beaches on the Gower Peninsula. Swansea also has excellent sporting facilities including the Wales National pool and Swansea.com stadium home to the Ospreys and Swansea City Football Club.
