Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry to join the dynamic West London Children's Healthcare Paediatric Dental and Orthodontic team. This post is based at the Chelsea & Westminster hospital.



The successful applicant will join our paediatric dental department, consisting of a team of committed Dental consultants, Orthodontic consultants, Maxillofacial consultants, specialists, specialty Dentists and Dental nursing team. Multidisciplinary team working underpins the services that we provide and has been the foundation that has enabled us to develop and provide excellent care for children and young people with a wide variety and complexity of dental conditions.



The applicant would be expected to lead, with the support of the Consultant team, the current busy clinic and theatre-based work of the Dental department.



The post-holder's responsibilities will include:



Being responsible for the provision of advanced clinical care to children with additional or special needs. This will include providing comprehensive dental care under sedation or general anaesthesia where appropriate. Dental care will be provided in a hospital setting and a flexible approach will be required in responding to the clinical care needs of these patients To provide support and advice, including treatment planning/case discussions on complex paediatric patients with/for colleagues working within the service To provide clinical care to priority groups, mainly children, on referral from other members of the service To provide clinical care under conscious sedation or general anaesthesia as required To assist the Clinical Director in the development and provision of an evidence based service using staff development and the appropriate management of resources Providing guideline updates in relation to paediatric dentistry, acting as Children's safeguarding lead, providing staff training as required Involvement in Undergraduate/ postgraduate teaching/ training To lead and deliver clinical audit programmes and participate in waiting list initiatives Assist the Clinical Director of Dental services with any clinical matters relating to paediatric dentistry and undertake duties as delegated by the Clinical Director.

West London Children's Healthcare was formed on 1st April 2022 bringing paediatric services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CWFT) under a single leadership structure accountable to both Trust Boards for all elements of operational, quality, safety and financial performance. WLCH runs services from Chelsea & Westminster Hospital; Hammersmith Hospital; St Mary's Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital. In addition, two child development services operate from the Cheyne Centre and Woodfield Road.



It is recognised that significant variations in outcomes exist for children and young people in North West London. These variations are driven both by the social economic factors that impact the daily lives of CYP but also as a consequence of variation in systems, processes and access to healthcare.
