(Defence School of Communication Information Systems)
We at 11th (Royal School of Signals) Signal Regiment (11th (RSS) SR), based at Blandford Forum in Dorset, deliver world class technical IT and CIS training to Sailors, Soldiers and Aviators across a variety of engineering disciplines. We specialise in training Information Technology (IT) and Communications Information Systems (CIS) to prepare Defence personnel for their current and future role of Defence IT and CIS engineers.
11th (Royal School of Signals) Signal Regiment (11th (RSS) SR) is part of the Defence School of Communications and Information Systems, which in turn is part of the Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT) which is responsible for delivering all technical training across Defence to meet the operational demands of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.
DCTT has 2,500 military, civil service and contractor staff based across six locations and we value our diverse and inclusive workforce. Job description
11th (RSS) SR is actively seeking technical specialists, with an ability to contribute effectively within a high performing team. You will be involved in instructing Defence personnel by delivering technical training programmes that will develop them as engineers and technicians within the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force.
The successful candidates will be expected to work within 11th (RSS) SR and will be responsible for the instruction of military students in a range of theoretical and practical disciplines focused within the fields of Information Technology and Communication Information Systems. We are particularly interested in candidates from an academic, engineering or technical background in Information Technology and Communications Information Systems who may wish to start a second career as a trainer/teacher. Full training to enable successful technicians and engineers to transition to a teaching environment is available.
We have job opportunities as Specialist Instruction Officers (SIOs) coordinating training in the following subject areas:
Networking (CISCO).
Operating Systems (Microsoft, Comp TIA).
Engineering Principles and Practices.
Software Engineering.
As an SIO (Specialist Instructional Officer), in accordance with JSP 822 and SIO MPD- Defence Policy documents you will be specifically responsible for:
Delivering technical training, ensuring conformity to authorised specifications.
Providing an exciting, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
Producing lesson plans and supporting course materials to support student centric learning, including integration of Literacy and Numeracy into lessons in accordance with Instructional Specification (I Spec) and Learning Specification (L Spec).
Ensuring compliance with personal responsibilities to students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)/Specialist Educational Needs.
Acting as a role model, ensuring that the highest standards of behaviour are maintained in accordance with the Defence Trainer Code of Conduct & Civil Service Code of Conduct.
Monitoring student welfare and process any concerns through the chain of command in accordance with the Supervisory Care Directive.
Undertaking the role of examination invigilator, ensuring any concessions or specialist requirements are carried out.
Highlighting discrepancies and assist the Examinations Management team to review any examination questions that are not valid.
Contributing to continuous improvement; maintaining own specialist subject matter expertise (knowledge and skills) and specialist subject content; undertaking a minimum of 5 hours Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per annum to address developmental goals.
Contributing to own continuous improvement; personally arranging for Instructional Techniques/Teaching Practice and Lesson Content Monitoring observations to be undertaken.
Participating in internal and external evaluation audits as required.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative and capable of inspiring young service personnel from diverse backgrounds.
A good communicator able to explain complex information in a clear and easily understood way to different audiences.
You will be required to be both proactive and reactive, assessing the skills and knowledge of trainees within the classroom and determining what support is needed to grow and nurture these individuals.

Networking (CISCO-CCNA, CCNP). Cisco Certified Netowrks Associate & professional
+ CISCO CCNA Introduction to Networks (ITN), Switching, Routing and Wireless Essentials (SWRE).
+ CISCO Enterprise Networking, Security and Automation (ENSA))
+ CISCO Networking CCNP; (CISCO SD-Wan Solutions (ENSLD) and Designing CISCO Enterprise Networks (ENSLD). Operating Systems (Microsoft Server and Exchange).
+ The successful candidates will possess the skills and experience to teach Operating Systems; Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Server installation and configuration, fault diagnosis and maintenance of computer operating systems to the following standards MTA or Comp TIA A+.
+ Engineering Principles and Practices. Engineering Principles
+ The successful candidates will possess skills and experience in Engineering principles, Project Management, Information Management and Service Management.
+ Data Communications. Radio and Satellite Communication principles. Antennas and Propagation. Wireless and Mobile Communications. Software Engineering.
+ The successful candidates will possess skills and experience in programming and software design.
+ Office automation and scripting, in particular Power BI / Automate.
+ Database design, administration and implementation.
Role Specific Training:
Defence Trainer course (DTc) as applicable.
Successfully shadow appropriate training modules according to specialism.
Compliance with SIO Competency framework.
This post will suit a highly motivated individual who is keen to take the initiative and influence training.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to effectively describe complicated ideas to different audiences and positively influence and manage trainee learning.
Qualifications
The entry requirements to the SIO Group are that candidates should have served a recognised apprenticeship or a relevant alternative period of training and to have obtained a relevant National Qualification. Candidates for training subjects where specific formal qualifications do not exist will be considered provided that they have undergone appropriate training for that trade or subject. Additionally, candidates must have at least 5 years relevant practical experience in that trade or specialism.
