Specialist Learning Support Assistant

(Physical and Sensory)

31.25 hours per week, 40 weeks per year

Salary: Grade C, actual pay 18,159 - 18,921

(FTE 24,405 - 25,430)

We are seeking to recruit a knowledgeable candidate who will be responsible for providing specialist support and intervention in Physical and Sensory within our busy Learning Support department. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with the ability to speak to students in a manner which encourages, motivates and supports them. You should have a good standard of education including Level 2 Numeracy / Literacy skills.

The post holder will focus on improving progress and raising attainment for our students in close association with our teaching staff. This may involve 1:1, small group work, or supporting individual children in class. Applicants will be positive and flexible, with the ability to use their initiative to provide quality in-class support and specialist interventions.

Previous experience of working with young people in a professional environment is essential. The post will suit someone with a natural ability to engage with and build an excellent rapport with young people. The ability to work as part of our friendly supportive team is essential as is a can-do attitude to self-direct and carry out own research to explore and deliver suitable interventions. This is an exciting but challenging role that requires a good sense of humour, resilience, pro-activity, determination, and patience.

You will be responsible for liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure our students are supported in line with the needs highlighted in their learning plans. Prior knowledge of carrying out sensory audits and consequential interventions is desirable. The role will involve sharing knowledge to the wider team and school staff via group training to ensure that staff are fully aware of how to support our students with Physical and Sensory needs.
