- THE ROLE -
The primary purpose of this role is to provide specialist mentoring support to students who have disclosed a disability, with a particular focus on mental health.
The post holder will apply their knowledge and experience of higher education to identify appropriate support strategies and deliver effective mentoring. They will work collaboratively with students to develop and implement Individual Learning Contracts (ILCs), taking a holistic approach to assessing students' needs. This process will involve reference to medical documentation, including (but not limited to) diagnostic assessments, medical reports, and Needs Assessment Reports.
A strong understanding of UMHAN (University Mental Health Advisers Network) guidelines is essential, as is a sound knowledge of common mental health diagnoses, their symptoms, and the potential impact on academic performance and the broader university experience.
As an integral member of the Wellbeing Service, the post holder will report directly to the Wellbeing Advice Manager and collaborate closely with Mental Health Advisors, Disability Advisors, and both internal and external stakeholders. This collaborative approach ensures that students receive appropriate, coordinated support to enhance their overall university experience.
The post holder is expected to have a strong working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, the Mental Health Act, and the Equality Act, and understand how these frameworks apply within a higher education setting.
The post holder will be expected to work on campus and travel to other university campuses as required, including Carmarthen, Swansea, Cardiff, Birmingham, and London.
