About the role
As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will rotate across a range of specialist areas on a 9-monthly basis within Stepping Hill Hospital and other sites across the Stockport Foundation Trust. These rotations include acute wards, rehabilitation, and community settings, giving you exposure to varied clinical pathways and patient groups.
In this role, you will:
Manage your own caseload of patients with complex physical and psychological conditions
Complete specialist assessments, diagnose functional difficulties, and deliver evidence-based treatment plans
Undertake home assessments and environmental visits, ensuring safe and timely discharge planning
Order and arrange minor adaptations and equipment to support patient independence
Participate in the Trust's 7-day rota, including weekend and bank holiday cover, to meet service demand
You will be both professionally and legally accountable for your practice, working with a high level of autonomy. You'll also have access to clinical support and supervision from senior Occupational Therapists, ensuring you can develop confidence and competence in specialist areas.

Supervise and mentor Band 5 Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistants, and students on placement
Act as a clinical educator, helping shape the next generation of occupational therapists
Participate in structured and informal teaching and contribute to the team's in-service training programme
Undertake your own CPD activities and keep a portfolio reflecting your professional development
Engage in clinical audit, evidence-based projects, and quality improvement initiatives, making recommendations for change to improve patient care
Working in partnership
Excellent communication is key in this role. You will work closely with patients, carers, the integrated therapy team, and the wider multi-disciplinary team to coordinate patient care, share knowledge, and contribute to service development.
You'll also play a part in:
Developing local standards and guidelines
Collecting and using data to inform service evaluation and clinical governance
Promoting occupational therapy across the Trust, including participation in events and career conventions
What we're looking for
To thrive in this role, you will need:
Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Experience as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist in relevant clinical areas
Knowledge of occupational therapy models, standardised assessments, outcome measures, and current best practice
Strong organisational and time management skills to prioritise your caseload effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A flexible, proactive approach and the ability to work under pressure as part of a busy, supportive team
A commitment to patient-centred care and the Trust's values of dignity, respect, and quality improvement
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be able to travel independently across Stockport and surrounding areas and have access to a suitable vehicle.
