We are excited to be offering this Band 7 opportunity to join the critical care psychology service.
The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary critical care team with the aim of continuing the development of the most up to date evidenced based critical care psychology service meeting the psychological and emotional needs of the patients it cares for, their relatives and the staff who in this emotionally challenging environment.
This is a gold standard service offering an end to end care pathway from admission through to discharge and follow-up in the community to manage any ongoing problems. Furthermore, the post holder with evaluate the service and widen the evidence base through research and audit activities. We have established links and ongoing clinical trials of new therapies with Cardiff University that you will have the opportunity to learn and participate in.
We are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic clinical psychologist with a passion for delivering excellent levels of service provision, development, evaluation and communication.
You will also be joining the Health Psychology Department in CTMU, which is a growing specialty and you will be part of a wider department of skilled and enthusiastic clinicians delivering psychological care within a variety of healthcare settings.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide specialist psychological assessment formulation and intervention for outpatients and inpatients and or their relatives on ITU presenting with delirium and varying levels of psychological distress.
The delivery of interventions required will be holding a strong psychological voice within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and to assist and develop the thinking around complex presentations and rehabilitation planning.
The post holder will be expected to take opportunities to display leadership in relation to service development initiatives in addition to the delivery of specialist psychological therapies, provision of clinical supervision, complex case discussion, specialist consultation and teaching to other members of the MDT, to multiagency colleagues and to other psychology professionals as required.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health

• Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the British Psychological Society or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence.
• Full (or pending for newly qualified candidates) registration with HCPC as clinical or counselling psychology practitioner.

Desirable

• Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two psychological therapies as applied to people with neurological conditions or long-term physical health conditions

Experience
Essential

• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings, including outpatient, community, and inpatient settings.

Desirable

• Experience of working with people with long-term physical health conditions.
