This post is situated within a specialist paediatric rehabilitation engineering service. The client group currently served have severe and complex physical disabilities and therefore require bespoke assistive technology (AT) solutions in order to undertake activities of daily living. The equipment has a clinical role in the care of the child helping to prevent deformity in particular that associated with seating standing and lying.
RES provides clinical support to the pupils of Chailey Heritage School and a large number of outpatients referred from local services who cannot meet these clients' needs.
The post holder is required to attend a range of specialist clinics on and off site as a part of a multidisciplinary team to assess the client and establish the AT requirements. They will be required to design, develop and manufacture or modify and adapt existing equipment to an agreed solution and to discuss with those concerned the technical aspects of the use of the equipment produced. They are expected to work within our Quality Management System and make/modify equipment we are registered to manufacture. They are also expected to provide a technical advisory role to the junior members of staff within the service and outside agencies as appropriate.
This role is for a B6 Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) registered Rehabilitation Engineer, however, depending on applications received we will consider recruiting a B5 Rehabilitation Engineer who is willing to undertake training to become registered and progress into a B6 position. If applying for the B5-6 transition post supported supervision will be provided throughout the training period, likely 1-2years. There are multiple routes to registration and the route and timeline will be agreed upon prior to starting the position. Time will be provided for on the job training and supervision provided throughout the training period to support your development and everyday work. You will be required to complete all training activities within the allotted training time frame and progression to B6 will depend on successful RCT registration.
