Job Description

Are you passionate about safeguarding and ready to lead best practice across a dynamic health board?



We're seeking a highly skilled, experienced and professionally curious Specialist Safeguarding Adults Practitioner to join our dedicated team. The post involves working across the Health Board with a base to be confirmed at interview. There will be a requirement to travel between sites in a timely manner to attend meetings, deliver training or provide safeguarding support. This Band 7 role offers the opportunity to influence safeguarding strategy, deliver high-impact training, and provide expert guidance across Hywel Dda UHB.



You'll work closely with the Lead Adult Safeguarding Practitioner and Head of Safeguarding, supporting staff to meet their statutory responsibilities under key legislation including the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act and Wales Safeguarding Procedures. You'll also lead safeguarding audits, contribute to multi-agency reviews, and deliver Safeguarding training to staff across all levels.



What we're looking for:



A registered healthcare professional with significant safeguarding experience



Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills



Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding cases and investigations



Experience in multi-agency working and delivering safeguarding training



Safeguarding Leadership & Advice



Support the Lead Adult Safeguarding Practitioner and deputise at multi-agency meetings.



Provide expert safeguarding advice, supervision, and guidance to health professionals.



Lead safeguarding investigations in complex/high-risk cases.



Training & Development



Plan, deliver, and evaluate safeguarding training across the Health Board.



Identify training needs and embed learning from practice reviews and audits.



Multi-Agency Collaboration



Work closely with Local Authority, Police, and other statutory partners.



Represent the Health Board in safeguarding forums and contribute to regional safeguarding strategies.



Case Management & Enquiries



Screen referrals, coordinate the response to Section 126 enquiries, and manage safeguarding concerns.



Produce and support the development of risk assessments, protection plans, and reports for safeguarding meetings.



Service Improvement & Governance



Lead safeguarding audits and contribute to policy development and service improvement.



Communication & Reporting



Communicate complex safeguarding information clearly to professionals and service users.



Produce reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.



Information Management



Maintain accurate safeguarding records and support data analysis for assurance reporting.



Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.



We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.



We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.



Our services are provided in:



Four main hospitals:

Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest

Five community hospitals:

Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire

Two integrated care centres:

Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings

47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers

Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services



The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
