Job Description

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join Northumbria Healthcare's dynamic and friendly team of Community Paediatric Therapists. This permanent Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist position (part time 0.6wte) is aimed at more experienced Therapists who are interested in further developing specialist level skills in their work with children and young people.



There is also an expectation that you foster leadership ability and work to support the localities' structure and teams, deputising for senior staff as required.



This role will appeal to innovative Therapists who are committed to delivering the highest quality service for children and young people with a broad range of speech, language and communication needs. They will be passionate about improving the quality of evidence-based practice.



Excellent organisational and time management skills are essential along with high level interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively participate at a broader level across the service and within a multi-agency context.



To develop and improve the speech, language and communication skills of children and young people in given locations, through support and intervention, liaison and joint working with other staff and parents/carers and across agencies, to maximise their potential and enable their maximum participation and inclusion within society.



Specifically, to:



Independently assess, diagnose and treat own specialised caseload of patients/clients and maintain associated records.



Participate in research in the specialist area.



Advise and provide clinical support to other therapists/staff on SLT issues.



Supervise the work of assistants/volunteers and others working with the post holder.



Contribute to the induction, mentoring and support of other more junior staff and may be required to facilitate clinical case discussions as part of peer review.



Take full SLT student placements, contributing to their assessment and examination.

Essential Criteria:



Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent



Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice



Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist



Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses or equivalent experience



Experience of multi-agency working across Education and/or Children's Services



Experience of working with clients with a range of more complex communication needs



Car driver



Desirable Criteria



Relevant post registration learning/experience in area/s of clinical specialism

Participation in quality improvement initiatives

Evidence of emerging leadership ability



The post holder will be required to work at sites across the Trust.
