Introduction:



Higher than average pay rates are being offered to attract and retain Support Workers who have the skills required to meet our client's complex needs, or who show the aptitude and commitment to attain these skills.

Our client is a delightful 4-year-old boy with cerebral palsy and associated complex care needs.

He lives with his loving supportive parents in a property adapted to meet his needs. You will be working in a busy family home, so will need to be sensitive to the needs and boundaries of the family and support his Mum and Dad when it comes to maintaining their structure and values.

We are looking for professional support workers who can commit to long term involvement to provide a stable environment and facilitate our client to achieve his full potential and manage his complex medical needs. They need to be motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individuals with a commitment to supporting our client's family to care for and support him to live a full, active, and fulfilling life as possible.

You will work closely with his family and follow specific plans of care which include a wide range of therapies provided though social and recreational activities within the home and the local community. You will receive full support from the Case Manager as well as a full team of professionals, with the opportunity to develop your skills through training with the wider team.

You will be undertaking a range of duties to support the child and will work closely with other members of the team in providing the highest standards of care and support.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:



Client Specific:



Meeting personal care needs including: showering, dressing, teeth cleaning, nail care, continence care, nutrition, physical well-being and general health.

Providing appropriate therapeutic and leisure activities in the home and wider community.

Driving the client's vehicle

Administer any medication prescribed as agreed with the family and keep a written record of all drugs administered as per the Medication Policy.

To monitor care and medical supplies and, if running low, notify the Case Manager so that the stock can be replenished.

If you have any experience of the below it would be advantageous to your application however full training will be given.

Suctioning

Ventilation Management

Catheter care

Tube feeding

Epilepsy management

Personal skills:



Be able to show sensitivity and consideration when working with the client's family within their home.

To be imaginative and creative in finding new interests and activities for and with the client.

Be reliable and punctual, to be open to and willing to obtain additional training and develop your skills.

General:



Checking, charging, and cleaning of equipment

Driving the child's vehicle

Maintaining the child's safety in all environments

To undertake some household duties as and when necessary and assist with the cleaning of specific equipment and resources.

Follow guidance given by your team care and therapy co-ordinator

To undertake any other related duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post.

Establish and maintain a trusting, therapeutic, working relationship with the client, his family, care team, therapy team and case management team.

Be responsible for the client's personal welfare

Travel to hospitals or elsewhere for therapeutic care

Complete daily records as advised including; time sheets, daily record sheets, medication sheets, petty cash sheets and critical incidents.

To fully inform other staff of any recent developments at handover.

Attend review meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer

Attend training sessions as arranged

Be reliable and punctual; alert the care and therapy co-ordinator and family, at the earliest possible opportunity, if unable to attend for work in an emergency or in case of illness.

In an emergency and in case of illness, to be flexible and to stand in for other staff members.

To maintain expected high standards of care and report any breaches in professional practice to the care and therapy co-ordinator/Case Manager.

Essential skills needed are:



Excellent communication skills

Ability to always maintain patience and calmness

Ability to act on your own initiative within this guidance

Driving license and ability to drive large, adapted vehicle

Tolerate pets in the home

Flexibility to cover a wide variety of shifts over Monday to Sunday

Desirable skills

:

Previous experience in a healthcare role or working with complex children

A health care or childcare related qualification

Full training and ongoing support will be given. The post covers 24 hours per week worked over two 12-hour shifts working 10am until 10pm this includes some weekends and Bank Holidays.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: 17.00-18.00 per hour
