Job Description

The post holder will be responsible for leading and co-ordinating the day to day delivery of aspects of the TB service in order to deliver high quality care to patients and ensure best use of resources and raising the profile of the TB specialist service as an specialist resource within Primary Care and Secondary Care.



Ensuring appropriate diagnosis, treatment and individual care plans are in place as well as providing an educative function to GPs and Practice Nurses.



Provide leadership and Managerial supervision to the team ensuring that all staff have regular supervision, annual performance appraisals and Personal Development Plans.



Provide highly specialist clinical advice and support to colleagues and health professionals on complex TB cases and NTMB in accordance with present standards/protocols/legislation and procedural guidelines.



Manage TB clinics in the community, including medication review, and where appropriate titrate medications within agreed guidelines.



Maintain professional networking relationships with all relevant professionals, agencies and organisations .



Oversee the management and delivery of highly specialist mass screening events including contact screening and agreed screening of required accommodations.



Input into agenda setting at Staff meetings and chair as required.

Clinical Responsibilities:



Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing a approach in the management of adults within this specialised area in the community.



Develop and maintain competencies in extended skills in relation to this specialty.



Follow agreed legislation, procedures and protocols in collaboration with other health professionals caring for patients.



Maintain high standards of evidence-based care, monitoring that care is provided in a safe and effective manner.



Ensure accurate, comprehensive and concise information is recorded by utilising Standards for Records and Record Keeping (NMC



Lead the development and implementation of audit and evaluation of the service



Work in close collaboration with secondary care respiratory and medical teams.



Represent the service at regional and national TB meetings including Clinical Network Meetings, MDT Meetings and those requiring clinical input. It is accepted that at times, the HCA works without direct supervision and the Team Leader acknowledges accountability of all delegated care.



To manage daily workload efficiently and effectively, taking into account the needs and preferences of the patient.



To maintain practice to the standards set by the Care Quality Commission.



Supervises staff to report any changes in a patient's condition or circumstances and lead on advice and support of complex cases.



Ensure own clinical and professional development maintaining own personal development plan, peer review and clinical supervision.



Contribute to educational programmes which identify the education needs of staff, patients and carers in relation to TB.



Assist patients in identifying their care needs, evaluating and managing their own care to ensure they seek appropriate help and advice when required.



Promote a positive attitude to health by participating in health education programmes offering information and guidance.



Demonstrate the application of evidence based practice and take part in research projects and audit pertaining to TB and NTMB.



Critically evaluate research findings and apply findings to clinical practice where appropriate



Act at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.



Be aware of and act within current EPUT Policies and Guidelines to clinical practice and Health and Safety at Work Policy.
