Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic

Specialty Doctor / Staff Grade in Psychiatry

to work on a locum basis within an NHS Trust. The postholder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality mental health care across inpatient or community settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct assessments and manage treatment plans for patients with a range of mental health conditions. Provide clinical input to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and ward rounds. Liaise with patients, carers, and other professionals including GPs, nurses, and social workers. Support the Consultant Psychiatrist in the management of the caseload. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with Trust policies. Contribute to risk assessments, care planning, and Mental Health Act responsibilities. Provide on-call cover if specified in the contract (rare in some locum roles).

Requirements:

Essential:

Full GMC (General Medical Council) registration with a license to practise. Minimum 4 years post-graduate medical experience including at least 2 years in psychiatry. Right to work in the UK (British passport, ILR, visa sponsorship not provided via agency). Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one. ALS or BLS training certification. Up-to-date mandatory training (or willingness to complete via agency). Excellent communication and team-working skills.

Desirable:

Section 12 approval (for Mental Health Act work). MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Previous NHS experience in relevant psychiatric subspecialty. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams. Familiarity with electronic patient records (e.g., RiO, SystemOne).

Pay: 55.00-85.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 - 50 per week
