The post holder will work as a member of the multi-professional palliative care team, providing clinical care for patients with palliative care needs in the hospice and community setting. The role will involve education and supervision of members of the team to develop others Palliative medicine skills.
This will provide experience for doctors who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and competencies in specialist palliative care.
Main Responsibilities
Provision of clinical care and supervision as part of the multi professional team for patients requiring specialist palliative care across all hospice clinical departments. This post is clinically supported and supervised by the Consultant team
Admission of patients and accurate medicine reconciliation.
Maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensive medical records.
Participation in non resident medical on-call rota ensuring that the provision of specialist advice is available out of hours 1 in 6 at the Ayrshire hospice Racecourse Road, Ayr.
Active involvement in clinical improvement activities, risk management and regular audit of clinical care.
Ensuring that knowledge and skills in palliative medicine are kept up to date to progress in the specialty doctor role.
Liaison with allied professional groups including General Practitioners, Hospital Consultants, Community Nurses and Allied Health professionals regarding patient assessment and care planning.
Working with colleagues to provide a high quality service to the patients, carers, families and the wider community of Ayrshire.

Education / Qualifications
Full GMC Registration with a license to practice - Essential
Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current license to practice from, the GMC at the advertised post start date for the vacancy - Essential
Post graduate membership e.g. MRCP, MRCGP - Desirable
Post graduate qualification (e.g. PGcert, PG dip or MSc) in education or palliative care or other relevant - Desirable
Completion of communication skills course - Desirable
Knowledge/Experience
Completion of foundation training - Essential
Two years (full time equivalent) Palliative medicine experience beyond foundation experience - Essential
Experience of patient with malignant and non-malignant disease and management of emergencies - Essential
Experience of Multidisciplinary Team working - Essential
Experience of managing patients in all settings (inpatient, community and outpatient) - Desirable
