Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group, is looking for a motivated Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). This post would be suitable for enthusiastic senior doctors who have completed foundation and core medical competencies (or equivalent), and wish to gain a period of focused experience and training in acute medicine. The post includes an opportunity to pursue the Portfolio Pathway (formerly the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration, CESR) as a route to entry onto the Specialist Register
Main duties of the job
This role provides an exciting opportunity to gain clinical experience in Acute Medicine, rotating through the busy and varied acute assessment unit (AAU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). There is a unique opportunity to participate in SDEC service development in particular as this is a rapidly expanding highly valued service for Whipps Cross, including developing the service for the new Whipps Cross Hospital redevelopment. Participation in quality improvement is an expectation of the role. The post involves evening and weekend work on an acute medicine rota, therefore holding full MRCP is essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • MRCP Part 1, Part 2 (written) and Part 2 (PACES)
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
  • Completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant medical specialty. Or as a fixed term trust grade in a relevant specialty with equivalent experience and competencies.
Desirable
  • A postgraduate or higher degree (Msc, MD, PhD)
  • Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)
Clinical Experience
Essential
  • Broad experience in Acute Medicine and General Internal Medicine
  • Current ALS certificate
  • Previous NHS clinical experience at SpR level
  • Experience in SDEC and/or ambulatory care
  • Clinical skills at higher specialty trainee level or equivalent
Knowledge
Essential
  • Clinical knowledge of Acute & General Medicine at the level of a higher specialist trainee or equivalent.
  • Participation in multidisciplinary quality improvement, clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
  • Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
Skills
Essential
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience supervising resident medical and/or nursing colleagues.
  • Ability to teach medical students and resident medical and nursing staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs nurses and other agencies, as set out in domains 2 & 3 of the GMC Good Medical Practice 2024

  • Experience organising and delivering a teaching programme
