The Older Adult Companion plays a vital role in providing compassionate support and assistance to elderly individuals, enhancing their quality of life and ensuring their well-being. This position involves engaging with clients in a meaningful way, offering companionship, and assisting with daily activities while promoting independence and dignity. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mental health and patient care, particularly with geriatric populations.
Duties
Provide companionship and emotional support to older adults, fostering a positive environment.
Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and medication reminders.
Engage clients in social activities and encourage participation in hobbies or interests.
Conduct patient assessments to identify needs and develop appropriate care plans.
Maintain accurate medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Utilize crisis management skills to address any emergencies or behavioral challenges that may arise.
Implement cognitive behavioral therapy techniques as needed to support mental health.
Facilitate telehealth sessions when appropriate, ensuring continuity of care.
Participate in data collection for ongoing patient evaluations and treatment effectiveness.
Skills
Strong understanding of medical terminology and experience with medical documentation.
Proficiency in psychiatric practices including psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and psychodynamic therapy.
Experience working with individuals facing developmental disabilities, PTSD care, addiction counseling, and crisis management.
Familiarity with both inpatient and outpatient settings, particularly within geriatrics.
Ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations and provide mental health counseling effectively.
Knowledge of pediatric psychiatry is a plus for those working with families or younger caregivers.
Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients, families, and healthcare teams.
Experience in clinic settings is preferred to enhance understanding of patient care dynamics. This role requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about improving the lives of older adults through compassionate care and support.
