We are looking for enthusiastic doctors to join us for a 2 year fixed-term fellow post in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital
To be responsible for the care of patients on the Ward and Out Patients
Department including undertaking pre-operative assessments and
preparation of patients to undergo cardiac/thoracic surgery, continuing responsibilities for post-operative critical care of the patients on both ward and critical care areas.
Be competent to operate as a Surgeon and assist and perform cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons.
Providing training/supervision to junior staff and Surgical Care Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners
Partaking in the middle grade on call rota, band 1A/1B with prospective cover to include resident critical care cover, covering surgical emergencies, out of hours post-operative care and liaising with on call consultants regarding referrals
Maintain professional standards and obligations by ensuring the accurate,
careful and timely recording of clinical data, both written and electronic, as
outlined in the Principles of Good Medical Practice described by GMC
To attend the regular surgical conference and audit meetings and the local
teaching programmes.
Ensuring effective communication with junior and senior medical colleagues, nursing staff and other hospital staff.
Have excellent communication skills with patients, relatives and carers
Be flexible and cooperate with reasonable requests from the Admin SR to
cover for colleague's absence where they are safe and competent and where it is practicable to do so

Within the Department there are 3 ST1/2 and 4 F2 posts plus 3 Trust Doctor posts. The post holder will work alongside and at the same level as the other ST3-ST8 level training doctors, who are linked to the Surgical Training Programme and there is a modular training programme in place.
The on-call commitments include a 'hospital at night' cover which includes supporting Tier 1 Doctors (F2 & CST Grades) covering a 1:17 full shift rota, the Surgical Registrar rota has a 1:8 /1:9 full shift rota in place, with prospective cover (band 1A/1B) which incorporates one Registrar covering the Wards between 20.00hrs and 08.30hrs (night-time) and 08.00 hrs and 20.30 hrs each day. He/she is supported by a Specialist Registrar in Anaesthesia.
The Senior/Junior Surgical rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week.
