Our Context:
Hollywater School is a school for pupils aged 4-19 with complex learning needs. We set high but realistic expectations for all and encourage everyone to discover the joy of learning so that they may thrive, gain independence and be given every opportunity to achieve their full potential. We strive for our students to be as independent as possible in their adult life. We recognise that the personal development of pupils spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, plays a significant part in their ability to achieve and learn and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experience of adult life.
Our young people present with a complexity of special educational needs including developmental trauma, neuro-developmental conditions, severe speech and language and communication needs.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, flexible, and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist. You will be keen to develop your expertise in supporting neurodivergent children and young people in a communication rich and affirming environment.
The ideal candidate should have experience in educational settings and delivering therapy services at universal, targeted, and specialist levels.

Be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with the HCPC.
Be a specialist with proven skills and experience to engage and deliver therapeutic interventions with children and young people with complex needs.
Have experience of supporting teams around a child or young person to ensure they are being provided with clinically informed living and learning environments and experiences
Be a confident, engaging and effective, model, guide, leader and trainer.
Be highly organised and ready to take the initiative
Be committed to ensuring the best outcomes for young people
Qualifications and Experience:
Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
- A recognized BSc or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy is required.
HCPC Registration
- You must be registered with the
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist in the UK.
Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists RCSLT
Specialized Training & Experience
AAC Device Training -
Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, including high-tech speech-generating devices and low-tech communication boards.
Total Communication Approach
- Knowledge of sign language, symbols, and visual aids to support individuals with complex communication needs.
Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) -
Understanding of EHCP processes, including assessment, implementation, and collaboration with educators, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
Experience in SEN Settings
- Working with children or adults with autism, learning disabilities, or neurological conditions.
EHCP Documentation and Legal Frameworks
- Expertise in
Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs)
and how to advocate for children's needs
Training in Specific Conditions
- Courses in autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and sensory integration.
Advanced Certifications are desirable but not essential:
Makaton or British Sign Language (BSL) Certification
Dysphagia Training - Certification in swallowing disorders.
Behavioural and Sensory Integration Techniques
- Training in
autism, ADHD, and sensory processing disorders
