About this Role

As a Sport, Leisure and Coaching Assistant, you will play a key role within the Habs Elstree Schools' Sport and Estates teams, supporting the safe, effective, and inspiring use of our extensive facilities across both Boys' and Girls' Schools (ages 4-18). The role combines lifeguarding and facility operations with practical involvement in coaching and officiating sport, supporting the delivery of both curriculum and co-curricular programmes.

You will ensure that all sporting and leisure spaces are maintained to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and functionality, while also contributing to the wider sporting culture of excellence, participation, and wellbeing that defines Habs Elstree.

Role will include, but not be limited to, the following responsibilities:



Facility Management and Operations -

Provide a visible presence across the Sports Centres and wider facilities, supporting all users as required.

Assist with the setup, takedown, and daily operation of sports facilities for both school and external use.

Support the Sports Facility Manager with the maintenance, inspection, and presentation of indoor and outdoor sports facilities.

Identify and report defects, damage, or hazards promptly and assist in maintaining safe, compliant environments.

Liaise with cleaning and commercial teams regarding facility readiness, cleanliness, and lettings.

Lifeguarding and Pool Operations -

Provide vigilant and proactive lifeguard supervision during school and community pool sessions.

Ensure compliance with NPLQ standards and maintain records in accordance with operational procedures.

On occasions, where required, support the delivery of swimming sessions, including assisting with instruction or supervision where appropriate.

Coaching, Officiating and Sport Support -

Support PE staff and coaches across a range of sports at both the Boys' and Girls' Schools.

Coach and officiate training sessions, fixtures, and tournaments across age groups (Junior to Senior).

Assist in the organisation and delivery of co-curricular sport, fixtures, and events, including weekend commitments as required.

Promote sportsmanship, inclusion, and wellbeing through positive engagement with pupils.

Community and Collaboration -

Work collaboratively with the Directors of Sport and the Sports Facility Manager to ensure a coordinated approach to sport delivery and facility use.

Help to support the school's lettings and community programme, ensuring high levels of customer service and professionalism.

Contribute to the wider sporting ethos and culture of Habs Elstree by embodying the school's values of Active Wellbeing, High Performance, Character, and Values.

Person specification



Experience and Qualifications -

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) - or a willingness to complete the training - essential

Experience working in a school, sports, or leisure environment - desirable

Coaching and/or officiating qualifications - desirable

First Aid at Work qualification - desirable

Skills and Attributes -

Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills

Ability to adapt across a variety of sporting contexts and age groups

Excellent customer service and organisational ability

Good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills

Other Information about the Role:

The role will require flexible working, including evenings and weekends, to support school fixtures, events, and community lettings. Physical fitness and the ability to undertake manual handling tasks are essential. The post holder will be expected to uphold the safeguarding and welfare standards of Habs Elstree at all times.
