Role purpose and overview
As the Sport Visuals Editor you will play a key role in the daily production of the Telegraph's output by creating and commissioning dynamic visual content using a combination of photography, video, graphics, and illustrations.
The right candidate will have an excellent eye for winning imagery, good news instincts and a strong understanding of how to construct visual packages.
They will be responsible for building the visual identity of the Telegraph's sport coverage, so a creative approach and strong commissioning skills will be key.
Key responsibilities
Bring live sport reporting and analysis to life through the innovative use of combined photography, video, graphics, and illustrations.
Manage the visual content output for Sport across our digital platforms, ensuring alignment with editorial objectives.
Commission and create illustrations, graphics, photo and video composites in line with our high editorial standards and desire for innovative visual approaches.
Lead visual commissioning on high-priority articles, liaising with centralised visual teams and reviewing all final outputs.
Collaborate with Publishers and Commissioners to deliver cross-departmental visual projects using various media.
Work with the homepage team to optimise sport article presentation on the app.
Generate story ideas using content from a number of sources, such as social media.
Assist with the promotion of Sports content via social media and other outlets.
Monitor the picture/visual budget to ensure that we are achieving the best value for money.
Advise on the production of our print products when called upon.
Key skills
Ability to conceptualise visual ideas and interpret creative briefs
Full of fresh and original ideas to bring challenging topics to life
Experience within a digital newsroom setting
Experience prioritising and successfully managing numerous projects simultaneously
Proven experience using Adobe software, such as Photoshop, Premier video and other relevant software
Familiar with existing DAM software such CHP (Content Hub)
Familiarity with working shifts set by the day's sports event schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends)
Experience prioritising and successfully managing numerous projects simultaneously
Ability to work quickly and accurately to tight deadlines and under pressure
Journalism law and IPSO guidelines training
