Job Description

We are looking for a graduate assistant to provide teaching and coaching support throughout the school (Reception to Year 11) with a particular emphasis on PE and Games, boarding and extra-curricular activities. The willingness to teach some ICT would be valued. Flexibility to take part in all areas of the school is required. The assistants will also be required to take a full part in the boarding aspect of the school (which is just two nights of the week). Accommodation provided. The duties include, but are not limited to:

PE and Games provision: Coach games, assist with PE lessons, assist with swimming lessons, and associated duties incl. set up and changing. Coach and manage sports teams in games sessions and on match days. Help to run after-school activities/clubs. Cover lessons. Possibly deliver ICT sessions. (full resources provided) Assist with lunch and break duties on a rota with similar commitment to a full time teacher. Assisting in classroom activities as required. Help with admissions events. Carry out some administrative duties. Assist in the boarding house including overnight stays (max. two nights a week) Support and supervise boarding activities. Cover first aid duties. Accompanying pupils on trips away from the school including sports fixtures and residential trips - including adventurous training trips.

Qualifications/skills/Experience



Essential



Enthusiasm for working with children. Graduate. A passion for a variety of sports and coaching experience in one or more sports. First Aid qualification or willingness to attain qualifications. Hardworking, initiative led approach to working.

Desirable



An interest in pursuing a teaching or coaching career in the future.
Colchester and the surrounding area has a number of successful sports clubs with colleagues who play or have played at these clubs. A successful candidate would be able to train and play at a club.

Interviews



We will contact shortlisted candidates with further information about the exact format of the interview process but candidates should expect to be interviewed by several members of staff and may be required to undertake some form of practical assessment.

Conditional offer of appointment



Your employment with the school will be subject to the school being satisfied with the following:

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)



As the school meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, any offer of employment will be subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before the appointment is confirmed.

Candidates attending an interview are required to provide three forms of ID from the list below.
