Sports Coach And Mentor

Job Description

We are looking for a motivated, creative, passionate and empathetic sports coach and mentor to join our non-profit alternative education provision based in Didcot.

We nurture 11-16 year olds through a bespoke package of therapy, fitness and digital skills (podcasting, photography), volunteering and trips in the community to boost confidence, improve mental health and build resilience.

Our mission is to ensure all students feel valued, included and inspired to become the best version of themselves.



You will be working closely alongside a small team of friendly and very supportive mentors to develop an inspiring, engaging and bespoke package of alternative education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sports Coaching and Mentoring

_

1. Designing and developing a creative fitness curriculum and PE lessons for students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups (maximum 6 students).

2. Delivering engaging and inclusive sports sessions that build confidence, teamwork, and resilience in every learner.

3. Adapting activities to meet diverse needs, including students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenging behaviour or special educational needs (SEN).

4. Embedding emotional regulation strategies (zones of regulation) and wellbeing practices into all sessions to support behaviour, focus, and self-awareness. (Training will be provided)

5. Building trusting relationships with students to inspire participation, motivation, and personal growth through sport.

6. Using sport as a vehicle for mentoring, helping students set goals, reflect on progress, and build positive attitudes.

7. Encouraging healthy lifestyles and educating students about the benefits of physical activity, nutrition, and mindfulness.

8. Your role may involve outreach work at student homes or out in the community taking students on local trips

Training

9. Participate in all mandatory training, including INSET days and weekly team meetings.

10. Provide certification of Level 2 OSCB safeguarding and Prevent awareness before starting your role

Administration

11. Write reports for every student with observations, praise, development points and work carried out within the session

12. Document activities and discussions with the student in their report with photos

13. Attending all team meetings and contributing ideas on how we can deliver the highest quality alternative provision support to children.

General

14. Contribute to the Oxford Creators podcast and social media channels

15. Supporting collegues with cleaning workspaces and areas after student sessions

16. Act as a mentor for new starters as appropriate and in consideration of own professional discipline.

17. To participate in the orientation and induction of new staff.

18. To act as an advocate for Oxford Creators

19. Work in accordance with Oxford Creators agreed policies and procedures.

20. May be required to attend EHCP or TAF meetings for students (training will be provided)

Desired Qualifications



Level 2 or above qualification in Sports Coaching, Fitness Instruction, Boxing, or Physical Education

Knowledge and Expertise



SEN (Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia)

Working with children who have been through trauma from disadvantaged backgrounds

Job Types: Part-time, Freelance

Pay: 15.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 9 per week
