In Environmental Services, the team are engaged in the direct maintenance and management of the authorities' environmental assets and infrastructure including parks, cemeteries, public open spaces, public rights of way and countryside sites. The team are also responsible for the strategic and project management and development of the environment associated with transportation infrastructure including highway verges, rural hedgerows, street trees, biodiversity and Environmental Education. This is an exciting
time to join the Environment and Leisure team.
As the Sports Facility Development Officer, you will play a key role in improving sporting facilities across the Newport City area. Working with council departments, sports clubs, governing bodies and grant fund providers you will contribute directly to the enhancement of facilities for both community and club use, increasing accessibility and participation in sports.
You will assist in the development and delivery of improvement projects, coordinating with key stakeholders and ensuring the timely completion of these.
You will report directly to the Parks and Open Spaces Team Manager and work alongside Parks & Outdoor Recreation officers, Community Engagement officer and the wider parks team. There will be an expectation to work closely with Councillors, Cabinet Members and a range of contractors, external organisations and public stakeholders to deliver and develop a range of projects.
Enthusiastic and confident, you should hold a qualification or have relevant experience in the areas of Leisure/sports facilities development or land management.
You need an organised and analytical approach to your work - and you are used to maintaining attention to detail while working to tight deadlines.
You have a sound knowledge of Health and Safety / risk management, risk assessments particularly within a Sports or accessible open space environment and an understanding of the importance of maintaining up to date and accurate records.
You are self-motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and appreciate the importance of customer care. You have strong financial management skills and a creative approach to problem solving with excellent IT and data analysis/management skills.
This post will require you to work well as both an individual and team member, organising your own workload, prioritising, and delegating tasks and delivering complex outcomes. A pro-active approach to developing, encouraging, and mentoring support staff will be essential.
