Job Description

We are seeking a Multi-Skilled Site Engineer to support the Hard FM operations at HMRC's flagship site at Pilgrim's Quarter, Newcastle upon Tyne




Role Overview

The

primary objective

of this role is to ensure that tasks with significant risks are properly planned, all hazards are identified and mitigated, and safe operating conditions are established prior to work commencing.

Key Responsibilities




Assist the site management team in implementing Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and controlling contractors. Control and issue permits to work to relevant stakeholders. Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Mitie's permit to work and SSOW requirements. Monitor Mitie and subcontractor works to ensure compliance with Mitie and client requirements. Implement the Integrated Business Management System (IMS). Liaise with developers, clients, and stakeholders to understand and satisfy their requirements.

Main Duties




Review contractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) as part of the SSOW process. Issue and manage permits to work. Collaborate with Mitie Authorised Engineers and Authorised Persons to ensure SSOW implementation. Coordinate with Lead Engineers and the QHSE Manager to ensure project compliance. Communicate all relevant information, including hazards and controls, to involved personnel. Ensure awareness of maintenance activities in areas covered by permits to work. Implement Mitie's control of subcontractor procedures. Conduct site inspections and audits to verify compliance and identify improvements. Attend meetings with relevant stakeholders. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable legislation and codes of practice. Attend training courses as required for personal development and evolving business needs.

Person Specification




Qualifications

: IOSH Managing Safely Certificate (NEBOSH desirable).

Experience

: + Working with SSOW teams and authorised engineers/persons.
+ Managing subcontractors.
+ Engineering/construction environments and permit-to-work systems.

Skills

: + Strong knowledge of risk assessment and management.
+ Team-oriented and capable of working independently.
+ Flexible and able to adapt to changing work patterns.
+ Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Health & Safety Responsibilities




Follow all Group and company policies and procedures. Report deficiencies in systems or equipment that may pose risks. Use work equipment and PPE correctly and as trained. Report issues or training needs to your line manager or via the divisional incident reporting system.

Information Security




Ensure compliance with Mitie's information security procedures. Proactively identify and report security risks. Report actual or suspected security incidents.
