Job Summary


We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our highly skilled team of Platform and Infrastructure Engineers supporting a geo-distributed server and Linux-based cloud platform (PaaS) infrastructure critical to the delivery and operations of Equinix's Digital Services.


The ideal candidate will have strong experience, but most importantly a passion, to deliver efficient, automated, on-demand platform services globally at scale. Able to leverage FOSS options to solve problems, as well as commercial offerings. They will operate as an independent technical leader and mentor to the team, and work with both the team and internal stakeholders, following agile practices, to analyse requirements and develop solutions.



Responsibilities

Contribute to the development and operational support our geo-distributed telemetry collection, aggregation and normalisation system for Product Networks Support internal platform customers with on-boarding applications and tools to the Kubernetes platform infrastructure Suggest and develop improvements as well as carry out maintenance to the Kubernetes platform, CI/CD tools, and Observability systems Participate in an on-call / support rota to respond to critical production impacting incidents Suggest and implement improvements to existing manual processes promoting and enabling self-service for our internal customers Participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of software solutions Debug complex software and system issues and resolve performance bottlenecks Participate in bi-weekly sprint planning and weekly scrum meetings Take ownership of the root-cause analysis of identified problems, participating in Incident reviews to analyse the problem and work with the team to develop a long term solution

Qualifications

Strong systems and software troubleshooting ability is a must Experience working with distributed systems Deep Linux systems proficiency is a must Experience with virtualisation and containerisation (QEMU, KVM, LXC, containerd, docker) Experience managing on-prem Linux-based server infrastructure at scale with Configuration Management tools such as, but not limited to, Puppet or Ansible Experience with delivering Kubernetes infrastructure at scale and/or delivering and operating applications on Kubernetes infrastructure. Our Kubernetes infrastructure is 100% vanilla, built upon FOSS components as well as our own bespoke tailoring Experience developing software and scripting for systems and/or applications. We primarily use Go, Perl, Java and Shell scripting Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms Experience with Secrets Management processes and tooling, such as Hashicorp Vault Experience with Monitoring and Observability of Applications, Infrastructure, and Networks (gNMI, BMP, SNMP, Syslog, Telegraf, etc) Experience with CI / CD and VCS tooling (Jenkins, Gitea, ArgoCD) Experience with Networking and Routing is desirable
