Staff Nurse
Job Description
The Ophthalmology service is an extremely busy service which sees and treats both planned and acute patients. As a Staff Nurse you will provide care to patients, undertake appropriate tests/ investigations and support our patients through their journey on the day unit or in pre-assessment. You will be required to assess a patients suitability for surgery. You will also prepare patients and support them during any investigations and procedures such as injections to the eye, various types of surgery, laser treatment and post-operative recovery.
You will also ensure patients understand how to care for their eyes on discharge home. Ophthalmology provides day case surgery to a high volume of patients each day and you would be expected To provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care. To deliver care without supervision. To take charge of the ward or department as necessary in the absence of the Sister or Charge Nurse.
To participate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners and students. To take responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of patients. To promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate patient care. To maintain personal development.
