The Endocrine Unit at The Christie Hospital is a specialist service covering a wide range of conditions including adrenal insufficiency, late effects of cancer therapies, neuroendocrine tumours, and specialist treatments for thyroid conditions. Our service provides care and follow-up for patients with rare genetic conditions including Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia and Turner's Syndrome, amongst others.
The unit comprises a ward area that can accommodate 11 patients undergoing dynamic function/screening tests or receiving blood transfusions. We have 7 consultation rooms which are used daily for a variety of clinics led by our four Consultant Endocrinologists. We also offer a bone densitometry scanning service.
The Endocrine Unit is based within The Christie Hospital, however, only a small proportion of our patients have an oncology diagnosis. We provide an expert service for hormone related conditions and we are currently looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking registered nurse to join our friendly and caring team. This is a unique opportunity for a nurse who wants to become an essential part of a small team, and who will strive to help us develop our service as a dedicated day case unit. We have the time and resources to offer excellent training for the successful applicant.
Our staff nurses are responsible for the care of patients and carers within a recognized framework in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and the Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policies and Health and Safety Legislation. Develop and provide nurse led services, including telephone clinics, and contributing to education and training programs for other staff members. This role will include the opportunity for the successful candidate to complete the necessary training to enable them to undertake DXA scanning.
The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
