Job Description

The Childrens Outpatient Department at The Royal Alexandra Childrens Hospital consists of 15 clinic rooms and hosts a variety of clinics including gastroenterology, respiratory, allergy, general surgery, dermatology, cardiac, orthapedics, ENT as well as some specific nurse led services. These include ECG clinics, prolonged jaundice and skin prick testing. In conjunction with this the team also cover the paediatric clinics at The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath which has two bespoke paediatric clinic rooms.



As a Band 5 in this busy department you will need to have the ability to support a team of HCAS , be adaptable and work under pressure and have good time management and organisation skills.



Within the hospital there is a paediatric education team that will be able to support you in achieving relevant competencies and developing in your role.



This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria.



We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.



The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the professional evidence-based nursing care delivered to children and young people within the department. This will be in line with local, Trust wide and National policies, procedures, values and behaviours. Promoting a supportive learning environment in which to supervise and mentor Student nurses, Paediatric Nursery Nurses/(Trainee) Nurse Associates and Healthcare Assistants.



The post holder will act as an advocate whilst demonstrating effective communication and listening skills which are age appropriate for the child and young person. Develop and extend skills and competencies in line with areas of speciality with support from our ward and Practice Development teams.



Your role with involve managing clinics at both The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and paediatric clinic's at Princess Royal Hospital.



As a staff nurse once competencies have been achieved you be involved in the nurse led clinics, which currently cover ECG's, 24Hr Tapes, Sweat Tests, Prolonged Jaundice and skin Prick Testing for allergies

People Management and Development



Maintain an age and development appropriate environment that promotes safety, security and optimal health for the child and his family.



Undertake a designated link nurse role for the clinical area.



Take part in mandatory audit as designated by Ward Manager .



Take part in Unit meetings.



Demonstrate prudent use of resources in (stores, disposable equipment)



Patient Care Delivery



Address the needs of individuals to bring about improvement in the health and wellbeing of patients through the delivery of evidence-based care.



Manage designated clinics throughout the day.



Model good practice through the development of effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.



Articulate source of evidence on which care is based.



Articulate the decision-making process underlying the management of own time and the patient workload.



Use available technology and patient record and parent/carers knowledge to identify changes in condition of the child and initiate appropriate action whilst reporting changes to the appropriate individual .



Include children and carers as participating partners in planned care activities.



Initiate and develop plans for health promotion with individuals involving parents/carers and multidisciplinary teams.



Demonstrate involvement in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.



Demonstrate an awareness of the needs of all children in designated area.



Learning and Development



Accept responsibility for maintaining own professional development.



Attend statutory and mandatory training days as required by UHSussex .



Maintain up to date knowledge on issues pertaining to child protection.



Undertake further training to enable development of role.



Take part in own appraisal and the mentorship of others.



Provide a learning environment for other staff/children/carers with a requirement to supervise and assess students on ward placement. (Undertake further competency-based training in order to achieve this.)
