We would love to hear from you if you have significant experience as a band 5 Nurse and have any of the following: -



Significant experience as a band 5 nurse or above in an Acute Surgical setting.

Significant experience as a band 5 or above nurse in A+E.

Experience Pre-Operative Assessment experience as a band 5 or above.



We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced band 5 nurse to join our small, friendly and supportive Pre-Operative Assessment team. We are a centralised Pre -Operative Assessment Unit and assess patients for a variety of day cases and inpatient procedures. Although we are an outpatient setting our days are intense and challenging.



It is vital to be an excellent timekeeper to be able to keep up with your clinic schedule and your case load of patients.



You must also be a highly organised person with a genuine interest in wanting to optimise patients for surgery. You need to be able to excel in a demanding high-pressured environment which is continually developing.



You must be an excellent problem solver, accepting of change and able to reflect where necessary.



Our Pre-Operative Assessment team undertake Pre Operative Assessments on all elective patients prior to surgery. We assess a wide range of specialties ensuring each patient is optimised fully prior to surgery therefore minimising anaesthetic risk.



This is an outpatient job assessing patients face to face, via the telephone and via virtual clinics. It has a large amount of admin involved. You must be prepared to prioritise your workload, have a systematic approach and an eye for detail to manage your own workload effectively. You should be a forward thinker and able to meet deadlines whilst staying calm and producing high quality work.



Communication is key for all aspects of the job whether you are obtaining information from a patient whilst carrying out an assessment or informing the admission team of a cancelation.



You must be someone who has excellent communication skills to conduct assessments, liaise with other health professionals and the admission team verbally and through electronic systems.

You will be motivated, vision and want to be part of a team that strives for excellence.

You must be able to provide excellent, high quality, patient care.

You must be able to support other members of the team and problem solve situations as they arise.

You will manage and prioritise your own caseload of patients ensuing patients are seen, optimised and fit for surgery in a timely manner.

Clinical Practice:



To adhere to NMC Code of Professional Conduct. To deliver a high standard of evidence based care to a specified group of patients and maintain confidentiality at all times.



To support patients, relatives, carers and friends and where appropriate involve them in the care of the patient.

To be fully involved in the health education of patients and relatives, identifying opportunities to promote a healthy lifestyle.

To have regard for patient's cultural and religious beliefs.

To respect each patient's privacy, dignity, gender and sexuality.

To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the relevant information regarding the patient's needs/condition are communicated to them, and that any instructions from them regarding the patient's care/condition are actioned.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to ensure that information is disseminated accurately to patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team.

To ensure contemporaneous record keeping at all times and in line with the Trust policy on documentation.

To be able to work as an autonomous practitioner seeking support where appropriate. Working within the limitations of patient group directives and NMC Professional Code of Conduct.

The post holder must demonstrate clinical decision making skills and take responsibility for decisions.

To demonstrate an ability to organise, make decisions, problems solve and handle conflict in managing the daily operational issues of the Pre Assessment department. Undertake individual responsibilities as delegated to the post holder.

To acknowledge personal limitations in patient care and seek advice from senior staff members.

To rotate to other departments within the speciality as required or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process.

To be involved with nursing audit/essence of care/observations of care.

To report adverse incidents which occur in the department as per policy. To assist in the investigation of such incidences.

The post holder will be responsible for the development of the Pre Assessment clinic in line with the Trusts objectives and support change
