The Start for Life programme provides extra support to families to improve children's lives, from when the baby is conceived up to the age of two. Family Hubs support families with children and young people of all ages, and at every stage of family life. Family Hubs are places in the heart of the community where you can attend appointments, meet with staff for a chat, or take part in courses and activities.

Your Impact & Main Responsibilities:



You will plan to and attend sessions across Bradford District in the Family Hubs, satellite sites, and community venues, to engage with families to share information about the Start for Life programme, and encourage participation in the Family Hubs and their offer.

You will be the friendly face and welcoming presence in sessions and clinics, building rapport with the parents/carers and children who attend, and engaging with them.

You will signpost and refer into Start for Life projects and to Family Hub activities and the Family Navigators.

You will support families to access and navigate on the Families and Young People's information (FYI) website and use this to find out what is happening in their local area

You will liaise with Family Hub staff, including Family Navigators, and with Start for Life projects, and professionals and community workers across the system and the local area

Your Skills & Experience (see job description and person specification for more information):



You will have personal experience of pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting, or have supported people in the First 1001 days.

You will have some experience of supporting families and communities, and of community engagement or outreach work, and advising and signposting.

You will have excellent organisational skills and be able to work autonomously, including forward planning for sessions to attend, in order to maximise the impact of the role

You will have good networking and engagement skills, able to both be friendly and welcoming in engaging with families, and in building connections with professionals and community workers.

Appointments are subject to Family Action receiving a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

(29.6 hours - 4 days or 2 x 18.5 hours - 2.5 days considered)

Location: Bradford District, including Keighley and Shipley

Summary of job:

The Start for Life programme provides extra support to families to improve children's lives, from when the baby is conceived up to the age of two.

Across the Bradford district, our Family Hubs support families with children and young people of all ages, and at every stage of family life. Family Hubs are places in the heart of the community where you can attend appointments, meet with staff for a chat, or take part in courses and activities.

In the role of Engagement Worker, you will promote the work of the Family Hubs and the Start for Life programme, and the projects within the programme. You will work to increase engagement with Start for Life projects and the programme, and with the Family Hubs and activities they offer, and the membership offer. You will ensure that families are aware of and understand the key messages and projects within the Start for Life and Faily Hubs programme. You will help families to sign up for membership, and to find out what is happening locally within Family Hubs and satellite sites, and in the local area. You will help families to access and navigate Family and Young People's Information (FYI) website, to find information, support, help and guidance.

You will attend different activities across Bradford District, including sessions and clinics taking place in Family Hubs and satellite sites. You will meet and greet families and engage with them to increase awareness of and engagement with Start for Life and Family Hubs.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

1. Organise and plan and attend a breadth of different sessions, across the district, to meet the needs of all communities.

2. Attend sessions including clinics, groups, and events in Family Hubs, satellite sites, and community venues, as meets the needs of the programme. Engage with families and share information about what is on offer locally and across the District, including up to date information about their local offer, and local Family Hub.

3. Support families to access and navigate FYI website, and use this to find relevant information, and advice, guidance, and support.

4. Refer to Family Navigators where families need targeted and coordinated support.

5. Build relationships with hub staff, Family Navigators, Start for Life projects, health visiting and midwifery teams, and other local projects, including Maternity Circles.

6. Support the Start for Life and Family Hubs Parent Panels by attending and co-facilitating Parent Panels in the 4 hub areas, and by encouraging families to become members of the Parent Panels.

7. Support the volunteering opportunities within the Family Hubs and as part of the Start for Life programme, encouraging parents and families or others, to apply for volunteer roles. Work with the Workforce Development Lead for Start for Life and Family Hubs to develop volunteering opportunities and complete evaluation to ensure the success of the pilot.

8. Plan and manage time effectively, in order to attend sessions to meet the needs of the programme and maximise the impact of the role.

9. Keep own knowledge up to date to ensure all information shared is current and accurate.

10. Keep records of all engagement activity, in order to feed into monthly monitoring of the work, and quarterly reporting and data submission. Keep track of KPIs and ensure meeting targets.

11. Commit to, and prepare for, your own regular and reflective supervision, and be responsive to appropriate challenge, advice, feedback and direction.

12. Have an understanding of, and comply with, Family Action's and Bradford's procedures for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
