Main duties of the job
The Clinical Scientist role at UK NEQAS for Leucocyte Immunophenotyping involves a range of critical responsibilities. The candidate will select and prepare materials for External Quality Assessment (EQA) surveys, test and distribute these materials, and process data returns.
They will prepare and distribute results and reports for EQA exercises and provide technical support to participating laboratories. Additionally, the candidate will engage in research and development projects, assist in maintaining and developing the UK NEQAS LI EQA software, and contribute to training and competency monitoring within the department.
The successful candidate will develop EQA for cutting edge laboratory testing, support large international standardisation projects, presenting EQA data at national and international meetings. Current areas of interest for the department are CAR-T cell monitoring, liquid biopsies, measurable residual disease testing and AI.
To excel in this role, candidates should have a strong background in genetics. Familiarity with accreditation standards, such as ISO 17043 or ISO 15189 are important.
This position requires someone who is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and safety, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently. • Minimum of a relevant good (2.2 or above) honours degree in human biomedical/biological science and post graduate certificate in specialised scientific field and experience to master's level equivalent
• Registered in appropriate scheme for Healthcare Scientist
• Commitment to complete and maintain Mandatory Training and required Laboratory competencies
• Commitment to continuous professional development required to maintain HCPC registration

Desirable

• Evidence of continued CPD including relevant courses with regards to H&S, leadership, quality or training

Experience

• Relevant healthcare science laboratory experience in an ISO 15189 or 17043 accredited service

Skill and Knowledge

• Highly specialist level of technical and analytical skill including trouble shooting with complex systems including IT
