Job Description

We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and dynamic Shop Manager to lead our well-established Charity Shop in Northenden. This is a hands-on, community-facing role where you will take ownership of the day-to-day running of the shop, ensuring it is welcoming, well-presented, and commercially successful. The funds you generate will directly support vital services for older people across Manchester.

As Shop Manager, you will drive sales, maintain high merchandising standards, and create a positive environment for customers, donors, and volunteers. You will also support the wider retail team by providing flexible relief cover at our other sites when required, contributing to a cohesive and effective retail operation.

The ideal candidate will be honest, trustworthy, and able to bring enthusiasm and initiative to the role. You will have:

Previous retail experience (charity retail experience an advantage)

Strong communication and customer service skills

The ability to motivate, support, and manage volunteers

Good presentation and merchandising skills

Confidence with record keeping and basic administration

A good standard of numeracy and ability to handle cash responsibly


Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the day-to-day management of the shop, ensuring a safe, clean, and appealing retail environment.

Recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteers, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

Manage incoming donations, organise stock, and ensure effective pricing, rotation, and merchandising.

Maximise sales and Gift Aid uptake through excellent customer service and creative commercial thinking.

Maintain accurate cash handling, banking, and record-keeping in line with organisational procedures.

Ensure adherence to all Age UK Manchester policies, including equal opportunities, safeguarding, and health & safety standards.

Work collaboratively with other managers and the central retail team, providing relief cover across the network when needed.

Promote the charity in the local community and build positive relationships with donors, supporters, and partner organisations.

Pay: 23,064.76 per year
