About the role

We're looking for an experienced Stores Manager to lead the stores function at our Waste Treatment Plant in Milton Keynes. You'll be responsible for ensuring our engineers have the right materials, parts, and consumables, available when needed, accurately controlled, and cost-effective.

This is a hands-on role that combines stock control, procurement coordination, systems-based tracking, and team leadership. You'll work closely with Engineering, Operations, and Procurement to keep the site running efficiently and to minimise downtime caused by missing or delayed materials.

Working Hours: Monday - Friday 8am-4pm

Key responsibilities

Manage stores operations end-to-end: goods-in, receipt checking, put-away, issuing, returns, and housekeeping. Coordinate ordering and replenishment of parts, PPE, consumables, and engineering materials to support planned and reactive maintenance. Use stock systems/technology to track inventory levels, movement, and usage, ensuring accuracy and auditability. Maintain min/max stock levels, investigate variances, and reduce stockouts, obsolete stock, and unnecessary spend. Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure on-time delivery, resolve discrepancies, and manage substitutions where appropriate. Produce and interpret basic reporting on stock value, usage, costs, and savings opportunities. Promote safe working practices across the stores area, ensuring compliance with site procedures. Lead, coach, and organise the stores team (where applicable), setting clear priorities and service standards.

The Person

Proven experience as a Stores Manager / Inventory Manager in a complex operational environment (e.g., waste, utilities, heavy engineering, manufacturing, energy, logistics). Full driver's license (essential) Strong working knowledge of stock control and procurement processes, including goods-in, issuing, and supplier coordination. Confident using inventory/ERP/CMMS systems (and able to maintain high data accuracy). Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, able to manage urgent requests without losing control of stock integrity. Strong communicator who can build effective relationships with engineers, operations, and suppliers. Comfortable working with numbers: able to interpret financial/spend data and support cost control. Understanding of the types of materials required to maintain an industrial operation (mechanical/electrical consumables, spares, etc.).
