What's the role?
The Store operative plays a key role in managing the day to day operation of the depot and ensuring all assets are accurately recorded, tracked and maintained. This includes responsibility for maintaining an up-to-date asset register and supporting effective stock control, storage and logistics. You will maintain accurate , real-time asset records and ensure the depot runs smoothly, safely and efficiently - supporting the wider organisations operational and financial integrity.
Working conditions - The role will be site based at our Hook stores Monday - Friday , 40hrs per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Asset Register Management
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of all tools, plant, and equipment within the asset register.
Log all asset movements in and out of the depot, including allocations to specific sites or projects.
Record serial numbers, inspection dates, and condition of assets to ensure compliance and traceability.
Support regular audits and reconcile physical stock against digital records.
Report missing, damaged, or faulty equipment promptly to the Site or Operations Manager.
Depot Management and Maintenance
Oversee the organisation and upkeep of the depot, ensuring it is safe, clean, and efficient.
Manage the receipt, storage, and dispatch of materials, plant, and equipment to site teams.
Conduct routine checks and maintenance of stored assets to ensure they remain in good working order.
Coordinate repairs, servicing, or replacement of damaged equipment in line with company procedures.
Ensure storage areas are compliant with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Liaise with Site Managers, Procurement, and Finance to ensure accurate asset tracking and reporting.
Provide regular updates on stock levels, asset utilisation, and maintenance schedules.
Support process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste or loss.
What
we're
looking
for:
Full UK driving licence
Previous experience in a stores, depot, or warehouse role ideally within the construction or engineering sector.
Strong understanding of stock control, asset management, and inventory systems.
Good working knowledge of construction tools, plant, and equipment.
Proven ability to maintain accurate records and follow structured processes.
Basic IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office and asset or inventory management software.
Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards in a depot or site setting.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail and a proactive, hands-on approach.
Desirable:
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Warehousing and Storage (or equivalent qualification).
Familiarity with construction site operations and logistics coordination.
