The Stores Person plays a crucial role in managing inventory and facilitating the smooth flow of materials within the manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will ensure that products are received, organized, stored, and issued accurately and efficiently to meet production schedules and customer demands, while strictly adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Duties
Receiving and Inspecting Goods:
Take delivery of incoming shipments, unload vehicles (manually or using equipment like forklifts), and check goods against purchase orders and documentation for accuracy, quality, and any damage or discrepancies.
Inventory Management:
Accurately record all goods movement in the inventory management system (manual or computerized), perform regular stock counts and perpetual checks, and report low stock levels to management.
Storage and Organization:
Organize and store all materials, parts, and components in the correct, designated locations within the stores area or yard, ensuring optimal layout and easy access.
Dispatch Assistance:
Assist with the packing, labelling, and dispatching of finished goods or spare parts to customers, ensuring correct documentation is complete.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all company and site Health & Safety regulations and COSHH instructions, ensuring the stores and work areas are kept clean, tidy, and safe at all times.
Equipment Operation:
Safely operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pump trucks, and pallet jacks as required for moving heavy items (up to 25kg or more with assistance).
General Duties:
Undertake occasional delivery or collection driving duties (if licensed), assist other departments when required, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills
Experience:
Proven experience working in a stores, warehouse, or manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
Basic computer literacy is essential, with experience using inventory or stock management systems and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Licenses (Desirable):
A valid forklift (FLT) license (counterbalance, telehandler, etc.) and a full UK driving license are often preferred.
Personal Attributes:
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Reliable, self-motivated, and flexible approach to work.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.
