We're looking for an exceptional Strategic Communication Manager to help us make a difference to our planet.


As our Strategic Communications Manager, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.


Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share. Your world of expertise




You will be a key member of the fast- paced Media and Campaigns team responsible for planning and delivering key communications and campaigns as part of our Comms and Engagement strategy. You will lead others to deliver creative and successful communications across a range of ever- evolving communications channels and formats, supporting Met Office customer needs and protecting and enhancing the Met Office brand.

Your key duties

:

Plan, lead and deliver specialist corporate, government and industry communication campaigns and projects using both internal and external resources to support the Communications & Engagement strategy and promote, protect and enhance the Met Office reputation and brand. Support Head of Media and Campaigns and work with other strategic comms managers to deliver major projects as required including working with influencers. Develop mutually beneficial relationships with relevant communications partners and internal colleagues to enable a consistent and integrated approach to communications with Government, Industry, Science, Tech and public sectors. Ensure that campaigns and communications plans are regularly reviewed, measured and developed including choice of partners, delivery channels and benefit of the partnerships. Keep up to date with current industry best practice, and share knowledge throughout the team, to ensure continuous improvement in the way the Met Office uses the specialism to deliver its Communications & Engagement strategy. Deliver other comms aspects of stakeholder, science and tech communications including producing written content for web, PR and social and regular newsletter/blog

As our Strategic Comms Manager, your total reward package will be up to 60,268


annually, which includes:

43,081 base pay An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97% Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:



We're experts by nature:A relevant qualification in a marketing or communications discipline with experience or a depth of experience working within these professions.

We live and breathe it:Demonstrable experience of successfully planning, delivering and measuring multi - channel communications campaigns ideally with a government or industry audience focus, on time and on budget, to maximise the available budget and which meet corporate objectives.

We keep evolving*: Experience of gathering and using insight and measurement, excellent strategic thinking, problem solving and judgement skills, to deliver well defined and considered recommendations.

We're experts by nature:Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening and presentation) with the ability to craft, compelling and consistent messages for a range of stakeholders across a number of channels.
