Strategic Engagement Officer

This role is part of the Strategic Engagement team, which is responsible for planning and managing a portfolio of strategic relationships to help us to deliver our ambitious corporate strategy and improve our relationships over time. You will work closely with colleagues in a range of communications, policy, operational and other external affairs teams to provide timely and accurate intelligence and advice and identify opportunities to engage and influence effectively.

Summary of the role and main responsibilities

  • To plan, manage and develop a portfolio of complex relationships which are strategically valuable to the GMC\xe2\x80\x99s work, and supporting the delivery of the GMC\xe2\x80\x99s public affairs strategy.
  • To build strong two-way working relationships with stakeholder/external affairs counterparts in our partner organisations, ensuring there is mutual understanding of our respective agendas, future plans and issues.
The Strategic Engagement Officer will play a leading role in providing a high-quality experience for our stakeholders and the teams they work with by having:
  • Knowledge and understanding of political and policy making process in the UK and parliamentary procedure with an ability to identify, understand and explain legislative developments that impact on the GMC\xe2\x80\x99s regulatory functions.
  • The ability to create and develop excellent stakeholder relationships including delivering stakeholder engagement strategies, convening stakeholders effectively, and developing content aimed at supporting the development of shared perspectives.
  • The ability to engage and communicate clearly with a wide range of individuals (internal and external) including with senior members of staff, elected representatives and stakeholders.
This is a hybrid role, and you will be expected to work 2 days per week from one location of choice. We have offices based in London, Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff or Edinburgh. There is also the opportunity to travel to conferences and some meetings at locations across the UK. We are happy to support a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.
