Job Purpose




The Strategy & Technical Director is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for shaping and driving the strategic direction of the organisation. The role ensures NTS's long-term vision aligns with national policy, international obligations, market dynamics, and operational capabilities. It is accountable for developing and implementing NTS's technical and corporate strategies, leading key customer accounts (NDA & Government, Defence, and Japan/ROW), and overseeing technical/engineering capabilities. The purpose is to translate strategic priorities into meaningful action, working with stakeholders, partners, and customers to drive business success.

Principal Accountabilities




Act as a key advisor to the NTS CEO, Board, NDA Group Leadership Team (GLT), and NDA Group Accounting Officer on strategic matters. Own the annual Board strategy event and drive strategic outcomes.

Develop, implement, and monitor corporate and technical strategic plans; translate national nuclear policy and regulatory frameworks into actionable business strategies.

Manage strategic relationship with NDA Group; act as NTS lead for strategy and business planning. Maintain dotted line accountability to NDA Group Chief Nuclear Strategy Officer and participate in Group Strategy Leads team.

Horizon-scan for emerging trends in nuclear logistics, energy policy, and international transport; translate insights into strategic goals for NDA Group and NTS.

Collaborate with the NTS Commercial Director to identify growth opportunities, partnerships, and diversification; champion innovation in logistics, digital transformation, and sustainability.

Lead and manage NTS Accounts (NDA & Government, Defence, Japan/ROW) across the full value chain from strategy and business development to project delivery.

Lead and manage the NTS Engineering Team (approx. 35 people), ensuring project delivery, efficiency, productivity, and compliance with nuclear transport licences.

Represent NTS in industry forums, government consultations, and international bodies; build strategic relationships with regulators, government departments, and commercial partners.

Establish KPIs and strategic metrics to monitor progress and impact across customer portfolios.

Manage critical stakeholders in the UK, Japan, Europe, and USA, including private entities and government organisations.

Foster a culture of strategic thinking, collaboration, and continuous improvement; lead and develop Strategy, Policy, and customer account teams.

Embed One NDA ways of working; collaborate with NDA Group functional executives and contribute as a leader of functional excellence in strategy and planning.

Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion within teams and the division by creating a culture of respect.

NTS Executive and Co-CEO, NTS Board, NDA Group Chief Strategy Officer, NDA Group Leadership Team, NDA Accounting Officer. Senior relationships with NDA, UK Government, foreign governments, customers, and global supply chain partners. Effective communication of issues with political and strategic significance to NTS, NDA, and Government.

Essential Qualifications & Experience



Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field (MBA or MSc preferred). Minimum 10 years' experience in strategic leadership roles within nuclear (nuclear transport or logistics sectors desirable). Proven track record in leading complex strategic programmes and stakeholder engagement, including Government agencies. Strong nuclear sector acumen, understanding system developments, opportunities, and risks.

Desirable



Experience in regulated environments, particularly nuclear or hazardous goods transport. Familiarity with nuclear transport regulations and assurance frameworks. Strong understanding of ESG, sustainability, and innovation in logistics.
