Street Lighting Installation and Maintenance Operative

Are you an experienced Street Lighting professional looking for a permanent, full-time role? We are seeking a dedicated and flexible operative to join our team, installing and maintaining street furniture across the Midlands and occasionally nationwide.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Experience in the Street Lighting sector is essential. Please do not apply unless you have direct, relevant experience.

The Role

You will be responsible for the

installation, maintenance, and repair of street lighting furniture

, including lighting columns, signs, and bollards. A core part of this role involves

excavation, trenching, and reinstatement

of verges, pavements, and roads, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Perform all aspects of street lighting furniture installation, maintenance, and repair. Conduct excavation (by hand and machine), trenching, and re-instatement of footways and carriageways. Install and erect road signs and columns. Operate a range of hand tools and mechanical equipment, ensuring appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment are used for heavy materials. Adhere strictly to all

Health and Safety

regulations, especially when working on or near live highways and with heavy traffic. Work professionally and courteously with the public and client officers at all times. Undertake general duties at the Head Office depot in

Derbyshire

as required. Commit to a high level of

physical work

outdoors, in all variable weather conditions.

, with the potential for

nationwide travel

as needed.

Contract Type

Permanent, Full-Time

Working Hours

Monday - Friday, with

flexibility required

for

occasional weekends and nights

based on operational need. Hours are variable.

Salary

Competitive and negotiable based on your relevant knowledge, experience, and qualifications.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, you

must

meet the following criteria. We will shortlist candidates based on demonstrable evidence of these requirements.

Experience & Knowledge

Proven, direct experience in the Street Lighting sector.

Must be

over 18 years of age

for insurance purposes. Experience working outside and the ability to work in all weather conditions. Comfortable

working at heights

. Familiarity with working on

highways/high-speed roads

.

Licences & Skills

Full Clean UK Driving (Required).

Excellent practical ability for handling tools and machinery. Strong verbal and written

communication skills

. Punctual, reliable, and a responsible attitude toward

Health and Safety

. Strong

team-working skills

and the ability to follow instructions precisely.

Highly Desirable Qualifications (Preferred)

New Roads and Street Works (NRASW) Ticket.

IPAF

License.

CSCS or ECS Card.

Specific knowledge of Street Lighting/Highways Maintenance practices.
