Who we're looking for:
We're looking for a passionate coach who wants to see our BUCS programme, focus sports and scholars thrive.
The role requires an adaptable, approachable, and focused strength and conditioning coach.
A degree in strength and conditioning (or similar), ideally with placement experience across multiple sports, is preferred to support our ever-growing sporting offer.
We're seeking someone confident in leading sessions for our focus teams - rugby and basketball, support our scholars - and who can also deliver five progressive, adaptable weekly classes designed to engage the broader Marjon Sports Federation sport community in strength and fitness.
You should be people-focused and use strong communication skills to help build team cohesion, self-efficacy, and enjoyment, which in turn drive performance and results.
What you'll be doing:
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality coached sessions for our performance teams, alongside designing and implementing evidence-based strength and conditioning programmes for both scholarship athletes and wider BUCS sport members. This will include leading group fitness sessions that target a range of athletic needs and development goals.
Programmes must be grounded in current scientific research and supported by a clear practical rationale. We are seeking someone who can effectively translate theory into practice, demonstrating a strong understanding of key training principles such as adaptation, periodisation, peaking, and tapering, to drive individual and team performance.
You'll be line-managed by the Student Sport and Physical Activity Manager and supported by the academic team to ensure your own professional development is prioritised throughout.
Bonus opportunity:
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to deliver personal training to Marjon gym members. A free gym membership will be provided for the duration of the contract.
You'll need to enjoy:
Collaborating with others, leading small groups, thinking creatively, communicating confidently, quickly building rapport with colleagues and students, and working in alignment with your personal values.
Where you'll work:
You'll be based with the Marjon Sports Federation team on our green campus in north Plymouth. Your role will involve multiple locations depending on sporting activities.
Please note: this role requires on-site working.
