To perform stress activities, carrying out challenging analysis and calculations on a wide range of state of the art aerospace components. The role offers opportunities for developing skills, knowledge and experience in this exciting industry.
The Stress Team delivers engineering solutions for the customer's specialist component areas. This role requires a broad knowledge of a range of engineering commodities within gas turbines and/or other aerospace projects and the ability to understand and assess the mechanical integrity of the components under analysis.
JOB REQUIREMENT:
Stress experience on aero gas turbine or naval marine commodities is preferred.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
Delivering design solutions by carrying out structural & thermal analysis of aero engine and/or naval marine components
Linear/Nonlinear stress analysis of rotating/static components.
Ensure stress reports meet the appropriate levels of quality and robustness and confirm that defined requirements are met
Ensure that all project stakeholders have the right information at the right time, through pro-active communication
Support other team members with ongoing/future work packages
Baseline Responsibilities
Technical support and execution for all stress/lifing activities such as:
Application of Vibration (Campbell Diagram) analysis, creep analysis
Application of Low cycle fatigue (LCF), High cycle fatigue (HCF), creep, corrosion, erosion and crack propagation assessment of rotating machinery
Damage and Tolerance/Melt anomaly methods
Support thermo-mechanical solutions
Contribute to development of best practices and productivity improvements
Work Experience
Experience
Applicants should have a proven background in gas turbines or naval marine applications at component level.
Ability to:
Quickly understand problems, set priorities
Actively lead various tasks and issues while continuously working towards improvements
Drive technical delivery, through adherence to a number of key processes (safety, concessions, lifing, etc.)
Understand complex system interactions
Interpret technical analysis, draw out key issues and present to project for review.
Develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements, and make technical recommendations
Develop solutions, based on experience, in new product designs
Knowledge
Demonstrate a good understanding of all aspects of aero engine or naval marine components
Understand the Safety Process for in-service engines
Understand the behaviour and limitations of aerospace materials
Understand component lifing strategies and limitations
Knowledge on system behaviour under impact loading
Knowledge of composite failure & analysis methods
Tool Knowledge:
Experience of one or more of these is essential: ANSYS, PLM, UG NX, LS-Dyna, ICEM Meshing, ABAQUS, HYPERWORKS, SCO3
Desirable: NASTRAN, PATRAN, Simcenter
Qualifications
Masters degree in Engineering (e.g. Aeronautical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering) or equivalent experience in an OEM
